No team is more important to the smooth running of an organisation than its board. Its effectiveness demands clear and observed processes, as well as a culture of openness in which each member feels free to express ideas and concerns, and where constructive debate precedes a collective agreement.
In assessing board effectiveness we interview each member, as well as senior external stakeholders and advisors. We attend board meetings in order to discern what is working well and what might be improved, and then we play these observations back in a report typically covering topics such as: Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability, Remuneration and Relationship with Stakeholders.
At the end of this report, we summarise our findings against the key principles of The Financial Reporting Council’s 2016 Corporate Governance Code, making clear the areas in which standards are met and any in which action might be required. Should a client wish, we are then also able to work with the team to support the shift required.
